It’s especially great if you need a last minute dip to bring to a work party and you want something better than a cold veggie platter.

Why I Love This Recipe

Taste? It tastes creamy and delicious! The feta really shines in this recipe without being overpowered by the yogurt. The lemon juices gives it enough of a tang, with the salt and pepper balancing out the flavors. I love adding olives to this dish. The feta and olives are a perfect combination.

Smell? It’s melted cheese, it smells delicious!

Is this easy to make? It’s very easy to make. The hardest part is watching the cheese warm up to make sure it doesn’t burn.

Would I make this again? Definitely!! This may have to be added to my Thanksgiving menu every year.

Ingredients

Ingredients for whipped feta dip.
  • Feta Cheese The best kind of feta to use is the kind that comes in a block in brine. It makes for the creamiest whipped feta. Do not use the crumbled feta, it is too dry.
  • Greek Yogurt I recommend using full fat Greek yogurt.
  • Olive Oil A high quality olive oil will give the best flavor in this dip.
  • Lemon juice Gives a bit of tanginess.
  • Chili peppers Red pepper flakes will work, or dried chilis that have been sliced. If you don’t like heat, you can omit this.
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Optional toppings Rosemary garnish goes nicely with this dip. I also love adding some type of salty olive, such as Kalamatas. A drizzle of some hot honey would also go really wonderfully with this dish.

Recipes to Try With Whipped Feta

How to Make Whipped Feta

Step One Cut the feta into large chunks and add to a food processor. Add the Greek yogurt and blend for 30 seconds.

Step Two Add the lemon juice and olive oil into the food processor as its running. If you’re not able to do this, you can stop the food processor, add the olive oil and lemon juice, and continue processing. You should see it start to get smoother after about 30-60 seconds of blending. You may have to scrape the cheese mixture off the sides of the blender. Mix in the salt and pepper with a spoon. You can eat the whipped feta at this point, but I highly recommend heating it up.

Step Three After you have blended the cheese, yogurt, olive oil and lemon juice, transfer to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Heat the whipped feta, stirring intermittently so the cheese mixture doesn’t burn. Let it get nice and bubbly, then remove from the stove and transfer to a serving dish.

Step Four Garnish with red pepper flakes, fresh rosemary and Kalamata olives. Serve with slices of crusty bread, such as my Cuban bread, or pita bread, and sliced apples. I could eat this dip on it’s own. It’s so good!
