Hi! So good to meet you!
Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I’m Candace, recipe developer, content creator, photographer, food stylist, and web master of this food blog.
What can I say…. I like to eat. I love to cook almost as much as I love eating. What I like even more is providing my readers with my best recipes, created and tested by me.
With a background of Cuban, Dutch, and Middle Eastern heritage, I bring a unique touch to every recipe I create. Whether it’s a delicate macaron, a perfectly moist mini Bundt cake, or a nostalgic dessert inspired by my childhood, my goal is to help you bake with confidence.
How Just A Bit Sweet Began
Baking, writing, and photography…three things I’ve always loved doing. How to put them together was the question. In my early college years, I took a few photography classes, which I loved, but fast forward to today, where a friend convinced me that yes I could make macarons, one of the most notoriously tricky desserts to master. After lots of practice, I finally nailed it! That experience fueled my love for baking challenging yet rewarding treats, and Just A Bit Sweet was born. I should also give credit to another friend who told me that running a blog is what I should do, and here I am!
Growing up in an ethnically diverse household really paved the way for my love of all different types of food. My dad is Cuban, and every year, we would make tamales. This is quite a production and requires many people. Good thing there were six of us! When I was young, I didn’t want to do all this work. Now that I’m older, I really appreciate the time we spent together and the tradition of making this wonderful dish. This definitely contributed to my love of cooking and baking. Well this, and the fact that my mom and Aunt were both great cooks, and I learned so much from them.

My Baking Philosophy
Although I can appreciate a quick meal during the weekday like my Salmon One Pan Meal, there’s something deeply satisfying about a recipe that takes time and care. There’s a special joy in making a batch of homemade macarons, crafting a cheesecake from scratch, or even spending a day picking fresh blueberries to use in my bakes all winter (like these Blueberry Lavender Turnovers).
Food is about more than just eating- it’s about the stories, traditions, and memories behind each dish. From making tamales each year with my family to watching my Aunt make the most delicious Italian meatballs, these are memories I will hold dear forever. Now. I cherish the time spent baking, knowing that each recipe has the power to create moments just as meaningful.
