Easy Homemade Thousand Island Dressing
If you’ve only ever had Thousand Island dressing from a bottle, this homemade version might surprise you. It’s creamy, tangy, and just a little sweet, with a fresher flavor that works on everything from salads to burgers and sandwiches.

This dressing is super simple to make, coming together in just a few minutes in the food processor. I mixed the ingredients together and asked my husband to try it. I didn’t even tell him what it was, and he said ‘it tastes like 1000 Island’. Perfect!
Make it brunch
Said to be named after the 1000 Island region, located in the St. Lawrence River between New York and Ontario, Canada, this dressing goes perfectly on my Reuben Sandwich or as a dip for Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries. It would even be delicious with Tostones (Fried Plantains). So many ways to use this delicious dressing, it’s making me hungry!
Ingredients

Just a few simple ingredients and you have yourself a fresh, homemade version of 1000 Island Dressing that you won’t be able to stop eating!
- Mayo, sour cream, yogurt These ingredients form the base and provide richness and tanginess
- Sweet pickle relish, ketchup Provide sweetness, with the ketchup providing the signature color.
- Garlic, paprika, and apple cider vinegar Add depth, flavor while keeping the dressing bright and balanced.
If you want to make it lower in calories, you can use all yogurt and use a low-fat version. This version is a bit thick; if you’d like to thin it out, just add 2-3 tablespoons of milk.
Let’s make Thousand Island dressing
Making 1000 Island dressing couldn’t be easier. We’re throwing all the ingredients in a food processor and mixing everything together. This process produces the smoothest results.



The last step is to put the dressing in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and set in the fridge for an hour to let the flavors develop.

And here we have our finished product, ready to top salads, be spread on sandwiches, or used as a dip.
